President's speech
May 5, 2020 is the 202nd anniversary of Marx's birth. On this special day, the "Marx and Engels Society for International People to People Exchange" was officially established in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The establishment of the Institute has been appreciated and supported by friendly people from all walks of life in Britain and China and the local government. I would like to express my deep gratitude on behalf of our Institute!
Britain is the birthplace of the industrial revolution and capitalism, and Manchester was the center of industrial development at that time. Marx and Engels had a detailed understanding and in-depth study of the huge social changes brought about by the changes in the production mode caused by scientific and technological progress in that year, wrote Capital and other great books, and founded the Marxist theory.
There are many life footprints of Marx and Engels in Greater Manchester. The city of Salford is one of the important places where Marx and Engels met and discussed. When Engels was young, he was sent by his father to work in the family-owned cotton textile factory in Salford for several years. With the rich local cultural heritage of the industrial revolution as an opportunity, the Marxian International Society for Humanities and Cultural Exchanges established a platform for learning and exchange with interested friends from all walks of life to discuss the academic theory of Marxism and promote international people-to-people and cultural exchanges; Reviewing the impact of the history of the industrial revolution on the process of human society, and exploring the reference significance for future development; Promote the exchange and interaction and economic prosperity of China-UK friendly cities.
We earnestly hope that friendly cities from all walks of life will actively participate in our activities, promote multicultural people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance mutual trust and understanding, and contribute to a community with a shared future for mankind.
