Overview of the Institute
Marx & Engels International Humanities Exchange Association - MEIA was established in Manchester, England, on May 5, 2020, on the occasion of the 202nd anniversary of Marx's birth.
In the 19th century, Manchester was once the center of the industrial revolution that attracted the world's attention in the history of human development. Its modern cotton textile industry and efficient railway and canal transportation all left a deep impression on the world. At the same time, with the rapid development and transformation of industrialization, a variety of theoretical thoughts and social movements have also been born here, and many world-renowned thinkers, sociologists and philosophers have emerged. Marx and Engels are their most famous representatives. It was in Manchester that Engels completed and published the famous Survey Report on the Status of the British Working Class. Today, Manchester still retains a large number of relevant precious historical documents and historic sites, the Workers' Movement Library, the People's Movement Museum, the Chetham Library Marx Reading Gallery, the Cooperative Museum, etc. Marx, who lives in London, also often came to Manchester City to meet Engels for discussion, and the bar where they met has now been restored to Marx's. The thoughts of Marx and Engels later had a very important impact on the world, and understanding their life trajectory and research environment can help better understand and grasp their thoughts.
